An 11-year-old girl is recovering from a gunshot wound she sustained during a shootout in Rayne on Sunday.

Rayne Police Chief Carroll Stelly said the child was an innocent bystander who was caught in the crossfire between two groups of men who began firing at each other on Reynolds Drive yesterday around 4:40 p.m.

The child was transported to Lafayette General for treatment of the gunshot wound to her leg. She has since been released.

Police have identified several suspects--both juvenile and adult--in connection with this incident.  A judge is currently processing arrest warrants.
