19-Year-Old Murder Victim Shot In Head

The Lafayette Parish Coroner's Office said the 19-year-old woman whose body was found on the side of a road Monday night was shot once in the head.

Sheriff's office spokesperson Capt. Craig Stansbury said an official autopsy has not been completed yet, but investigators are still following leads into the homicide of Valerie West.

West's body was found on the side of Gazette Road, about a block away from her home on Madame Germaine Street.

The investigation into her death continues.
