1996 Cold Case File Reopened; Baton Rouge Man Arrested

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's detectives have arrested a 36-year-old man on charges related to a double slaying in 1996 after evidence from the cold case file was resubmitted to the State Police Crime Lab for evaluation.

The Advocate reports Albert Norwood of Baton Rouge was booked Thursday on counts of principal to first degree murder.

On May 24, 1996, Kenneth Scott and Gregory Stewart were shot and killed while riding in a van.

Investigators found Norwood's bloody fingerprints on the van's sliding door, but a grand jury declined to indict him for first-degree murder.

Detective reopened the case in February, resubmitting all evidence to the crime lab.

That evidence, coupled with previous statements by Norwood's attorney, led detectives to allege that Norwood had direct knowledge of the crime.
