$2.4 Million Raised For Obesity Fight

MONROE, La. (AP) — The YMCA of Northeast Louisiana has committed $2.4 million to create healthy living initiatives in Ouachita Parish through a partnership called Ouachita Well.

The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/N37xFc ) Ouachita Well is a combine of nonprofits and government agencies. It recently was awarded nearly $1 million through the Challenge for a Healthier Louisiana, a grant program pioneered by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation.

The program aims to reduce the state’s obesity rate.

Chris Pealer, executive director of the YMCA, said as part of the challenge grant program, Ouachita Well matched the grant award with $1.4 million in pledged support, bringing the total expected to be available to $2.4 million.
