2 Arrested On Second-Degree Murder Charges In Ouachita Parish

MONROE, La. (AP) — Two men wanted by Ouachita Parish deputies in connection with a double homicide in June have been arrested.

Chief Deputy Marc Mashaw says investigators arrested 29-year-old Demetric Whitlock and 34-year-old Rico Collins on Wednesday. Whitlock and Collins were booked into Ouachita Correctional Center on two counts of second-degree murder.

The News-Star reports Whitlock and Collins were each being held on a $2 million bond.

On June 8, the bodies of 28-year-old Russell Atkins, of Monroe, and 41-year-old Dexter Burkhalter, of Winnsboro, were found at Atkins’ home south of Monroe.

Deputies said they believed the deaths were drug-related.

It was unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
