HOUMA, La. (AP) — Houma authorities say two people have been arrested after a 26-year-old man sliced his girlfriend's face with a box cutter and was shot in the arm by a man who came to her defense.

Houma Police Chief Todd Duplantis tells The Courier that Enos Manuel got into a fight with his girlfriend Thursday evening.

Manuel allegedly took the knife and slashed four inches under her jawbone.

Police says that Aaron Sterns, who began to fight with Manuel after he hurt his girlfriend, shot Manuel in the arm and fled.

Manuel was charged with aggravated second-degree battery and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.

Sterns and arrested Friday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

It wasn't clear if they had lawyers.
