ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) — Vermilion Parish narcotics agents say they have rescued two babies arrested four people after finding a meth lab under a backyard tree of an Abbeville home.

The Advocate reports agents acting on a tip discovered a 2-year-old and 1-year-old in the home Tuesday and removed them. In a press release, Sheriff Mike Couvillon says agents noticed a pungent chemical smell that they immediately related to meth production. Agents arrested 36-year-old Jody Wooten, 32-year-old Kimberly Wooten, 49-year-old Sondra Evans and 25-year-old Brittney Adkins. The Wootens are the homeowners.

Vermilion deputies and Abbeville police officers set up a perimeter around the home so State Police hazardous materials personnel could neutralize the lab and decontaminate the property, which is located a few hundred feet from J.H. Williams Middle School.
