MONROE, La. (AP) — A federal jury has acquitted two former correctional officers of charges stemming from the alleged beating of a handcuffed man.

Kenneth Lamar Dennis, who was a major at Richwood Correctional Center, was cleared Thursday of a charge he beat and used a stun gun on a man who had been arrested in 2004 by the Monroe police for a traffic violation.

Derome Sanchez Proctor, who was a sergeant at the privately owned prison, was acquitted of lying to the FBI and a grand jury about the incident.

Lawyers for Dennis and Proctor said their clients were relieved and eager to move on with their lives.
