20 Great Things From The 2017 UL Softball Season: Lexie Comeaux

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team had another great season in 2017.

Louisiana finished their season with an overall record of 47-8, while capturing both the regular season and postseason Sun Belt Conference titles.

The Cajuns appeared in an NCAA Regional for the 19th consecutive appearance, including their and 27th in the last 28 seasons.

It was a terrific season, with many memories.

That being said, over the summer, I'm going to try to focus on 20 things that I took away from the season.

Today, Lexie Comeaux.

One of the biggest questions heading into the 2017 season, after the graduation of former All-American Lexie Elkins in 2016, was: "Who is going to catch?"

This question became even more prevalent after Miranda Grotenhuis, a talented player expected to contend for playing time behind the plate, was lost for the season, due to a knee injury, just weeks before the season began.

A former infielder, Comeaux made the move to catcher, and never looked back.

A native of Tomball, Texas, Comeaux hit a .333, to go along with 10 home runs and 48 runs batted in.

The numbers were good enough to earn Comeaux All-Louisiana First Team, All-Sun Belt Second Team, and NFCA Central Region Second Team honors.

Really, did anybody project those type of numbers, or anywhere close, from the Louisiana catching position, prior to the season?

Every year, there are a few surprises, with a player or two coming into their own, and that was the case with Comeaux in 2017.

Things will be quite different for Comeaux in 2018, however.

While there were limited expectations of her in 2017, now, after her terrific sophomore season, the same, if not more, is going to be expected from her in 2018.

It comes with the territory.

Regardless of what happens in the future, however, Comeaux was one of the great stories from 2017.
