DEQ Investigates Paper Mill Regarding Fish Kill In Pearl River
The Department of Environmental Quality is running tests at the Temple Inland paper mill in Bogalusa, where a toxic leak into the Pearl River caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of fish.
DEQ spokesman Rodney Mallett says they are not planning any changes to the permits in place at the mill, however, improvements to the water quality system and additional monitoring by the company will be required before the mill is allowed to resume operations. Mallett
says the existing permits are adequate to protect the environment.
