GRAND ISLE, La. (AP) — Three members of the police department in the Louisiana barrier island town of Grand Isle have been arrested.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office says in a Wednesday news release that all three face malfeasance in office charges. Two also face charges of extortion.

Two civilians also were arrested on extortion counts.

Sheriff Newell Normand's office did not release details of the alleged crimes.

Wednesday's arrests follow a search of the Grand Isle Police Department's headquarters in March. At the time, Normand said there was evidence of sloppy handling and storage of drug evidence.
