NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Fans of the music and entertainment in Branson, Missouri or the sun and fun of Cancun, Mexico will now have a chance to fly non-stop to those destinations from New Orleans.

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport announced Wednesday the additions of the non-stop flights offered by Branson AirExpress, which is operated by Orange Air. The flights, including to Cincinnati, Ohio, will begin May 6.

Aviation Director Iftikhar Ahmad tells NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune that the announcement brings the number of non-stops cities from New Orleans to 45, a record.

A total of 13 airlines now operate out of Armstrong. Ahmad says recruiting the new airline took years. He says he first approached Branson AirExpress about flying out of New Orleans in July 2010.
