St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says he will award a $500 scholarship to one St. Landry Parish graduating senior.

Guidroz says the money is being made available through the Louisiana Sheriff's Honorary Membership Program.

The scholarship money may be spent in pursuit of higher education within the state of Louisiana.  The recipient must enroll as a full-time undergraduate at an accredited college or university in Louisiana.

Applicants for the scholarship must also be permanent residents of St. Landry Parish and Louisiana.

Anyone interested in applying can pick up an information packet at participating high schools in St. Landry Parish.

Completed applications must be received by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office no later than April 1, 2014.

The sheriff says the winner will be determined by an independent selection committee, and the announcement of the winner will be on May 1, 2014.
