7-year-old Christopher Marshall, a 2nd grader at Driver Elementary in Virginia was recently suspended for making "gun noises" while pointing his pencil in what his teacher described as a "threatening" manner.

School officials are standing behind the suspension, explaining that a pencil can be considered a weapon.

A pencil is a weapon when it is pointed at someone in a threatening way and gun noises are made. - Bethanne Bradshaw, Suffolk Public Schools

When Paul Marshall, father of the 7-year-old Christopher, asked his son why he was pointing his pencil and making "gun noises", Christopher explained,

Well I was being a Marine and the other guy was being a bad guy’…It’s as simple as that.

In light of recent violent crimes at schools involving guns it's understandable that teachers and faculty would be on edge, but Paul Marshall believes the teachers went a bit overboard in this particular incidence.
