30 year old Kerry D. Gayfield was sentenced to 90 months in prison and three years of supervised release today for drug trafficking and illegally possessing a firearm.

Gayfield was sentenced by US District Judge Robert James for one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and one count of possession of a firearm in relation to drug trafficking. Evidence was presented by West Monroe police who searched his home on January 10, 2013. Gayfield was found with a digital scale in front of him and a bag of marijuana in his hand. Also found on Gayfield was a loaded .38 caliber Smith and Wesson. A search of the home uncovered 43 and a half grams of marijuana, scales and other drug paraphenalia, $469 in cash, a bottle of liquid hydrocodone in someone else's name, two hydrocodone pills, cocaine and a second firearm.

Sentencing came after a guilty plea from Gayfield who was convicted of five other felonies since 2003.
