Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies were called out to investigate a suspicious vehicle yesterday in a private parking lot in the 700 block of West Admiral Doyle Drive when they saw a man with a gun sleeping in the car.

Deputies asked 29-year-old J'Von J. Smith to get out of the car, and when he did he fled on foot, but deputies were quickly able to get him.

During their pursuit of Smith, deputies say they saw him trying to reach into his waist band, and they later discovered he had a handgun in there.

Smith was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail on multiple charges including:

  • Possession with intent to Distribute Schedule 1
  • Possession with intent to Distribute Schedule 2
  • Possession with intent to Distribute Schedule 4
  • Possession with intent to Distribute Schedule 5
  • Possession  of methamphetamine over 28 grams
  • Possession of controlled dangerous substance in a  drug free zone
  • 2nd or subsequent offense for CDS
  • Monies derived from the sales CDS
  • Possession of a firearm with CDS
  • Possession of a firearm by convicted felon
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Deputies say they found illegal narcotics and firearms in Smiths car:

  • Approximately 3.8 lbs. of marijuana
  • 80 ounces of Promethazine
  • 3 grams of heroin
  • 16 grams of crack cocaine
  • 58 grams of methamphetamine
  • 9 grams of powder cocaine
  • 451 tablets of MDMA (ecstasy)
  • 872 tablets of Xanax
  • 34 tablets of Tramadol
  • 46 tablets of Vyvanse
  • 41 tablets of Hydrocodone
  • 44 tablets of Oxycodone
  • 1 revolver .38 caliber
  • 1 semi-auto pistol .40 caliber   (on person)
  • 1 AR-15 style semi-auto rifle 5.56mm
  • About  $5,325.00 in US currency
