A woman's home in Duson is gone after a fire totally consumed the structure.

The fire was reported around a quarter to 8 o'clock Saturday night, and Duson Fire Department officials went to battle the blaze on Cactus Road.

The fire chief says that an electric smoker was being used outside of the home, and when a fire caught, the woman who lived there put it out, thinking the fire was totally out, but that was not the case.

Later in the evening, the woman went outside to investigate because she smelled what she thought was something burning, and both her house and back porch were on fire.

The fire has been ruled an accident.

While the lady of the house made it out safely, the woman's pets died in the fire.

Both a firefighter from Scott and Carencro were taken and treated at a local hospital for injuries they got while battling this blaze.

Several local firefighter divisions were called out to battled the blaze.
