A New Iberia Man’s Music Video Gets Him In Trouble

A convicted felon learned the hard way that when the federal government says you can't possess a firearm because you are a convicted felon, they really mean it.

New Iberia man, 22-year-old Jaymie Williams, entered a guilty plea in federal court this week to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Federal officials say that Williams was witnessed at a Lafayette sporting goods store iin March of this year when a Century Arms, Model RAS47 was bought. Then prosecutors say Willams was handling the firearm while shooting a music video.

In April, Williams is said to have had the firearm with him when he went into a gun shop.

Because of his 2017 felony conviction, Wiliams was breaking the law.

Williams could be sentenced up to 10 years in prison and fave to pay a $250,000 fine.

The ATF and the Lafayette Police Department were the two agencies that worked on this investigation.

According to officials this particular case is part of an initiative called Project Safe Neighborhoods.

The press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office explains the program,

" Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that has been historically successful in bringing together all levels of law enforcement to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.   Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made turning the tide of rising violent crime in America a top priority.   In October 2017, as part of a series of actions to address this crime trend, Attorney General Sessions announced the reinvigoration of PSN and directed all U.S. Attorney’s Offices to develop a district crime reduction strategy that incorporates the lessons learned since PSN launched in 2001."

The title of Williams' music video is "BG Flow".
