Scott Police Chief Chad Leger says an officer saw 21-year-old Kevin Espree's car turn onto Willow Street last night without stopping at the intersection of Mills Street and West Willow first.

The officer also noticed that the vehicle had extremely dark tinted windows, and he did not have lights on his license plate.

The officer decided to conduct a traffic stop.  When Espree was questioned about a hand rolled cigar behind one of his ears, the officer says the man ate it.

The officer then decided to investigate further. During a pat down search, the officer says Espree dropped a clear cellophane bag in an attempt to conceal it.

The officer found that bag, and he says it contained 5.2 grams of marijuana.  The officer also found two other cellophane bags containing 2.5 grams of marijuana in each.

After being placed under arrest, and put into the back of Scott Police officer's car, the officer says he searched the car and found an open container of alcohol.

Espree was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for

  • A stop sign violation
  • Window tint violation
  • Hhaving an open container of alcohol
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
