A Week After Ice Storm Hits Maine – More Than 4,000 Still Without Power

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A week after an ice storm hit parts of northern New England, more than 4,000 Maine residents are still without power. And utility officials say the weekend snowstorm could cause more outages.

Bangor Hydro Electric reported 4,193 outages remaining early Saturday morning.

Maine emergency officials say it could be next week before some parts of Hancock County get electricity back.

Central Maine Power, which at the peak of the storm had 87,000 customers without power, had 549 outages remaining Saturday morning. Over the course of the storm 123,000 Central Maine Power customers lost power.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says the state is about to get another blast of winter weather. Some areas could get more than six inches of snow Sunday evening. Maine has been socked with several snow storms this month, in addition to the ice storm.
