NEW IBERIA, La. (KPEL) — An Abbeville man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Dollar General store in New Iberia.

According to Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal, Darrel Mathieu allegedly entered the store while wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a ski mask and armed with handgun. He then allegedly shot the cashier in the leg and stole and undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, Ackal said.

Mathieu was arrested after reports of a suspicious person in the area of Hwy. 14 near the store, Ackal said.

Mathieu was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail and charged with attempted first-degree murder.
