An unnamed officer with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office was shot Saturday morning after he, and a fellow officer, responded to a domestic disturbance complaint in the 6100 block of Leger Road.

La. State Police spokesperson Trooper Stephen Hammons says around 3:00 a.m. the two officers went to the home south of Crowley, and once they got inside 41-year-old James A. Trahan of Crowley armed himself with a shotgun, shooting the injured officer in the leg. The deputies then shot back, fatally wounding Trahan.

The injured deputy has undergone surgery and is recovering in a hospital. State Police continue to investigate.
