Acadiana Being Warned By BBB About Bayview Solutions

Acadiana's Better Business Bureau is warning consumers abut Bayview Solutions LLC. Bayview is a Florida based collections agency that does business across the country.

In a pending government action the Federal Trade Commission alleges the company violated federal law by unfairly exposing consumers' personal information without their knowledge or consent.

The company has an 'F' rating with the Better Business Bureau due to government actions against the business, the length of time the company has been doing business and the Better Business Bureau has insufficient background information on the company.

According to the BBB the FTC filed a lawsuit on Oct. 30th against Bayview after the company allegedly posted consumers' bank account and credit card number, birth dates, contact information, employer names and information about debts the consumers allegedly owed on a public website.

The BBB offers these tips:

• Know your rights. Debt collectors cannot threaten you with arrest or use abusive language.
• Request written proof. By law a collection agency must provide written notice after contacting you by telephone. Don't ignore the collector. It's best to respond immediately, even if you don't believe the debt is yours. Otherwise the collector may continue contacting you or file a judgement.
