-Wall Street ended in the red, as Washington's debt negotiations failed to draw buyers into the market. 
-The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 54 points to 12,437
-J.P. Morgan led the Dow blue-chip's as it added 1.8% to $40.35; Leading the blue chip decliners was Alcoa falling 2.5% and GE dropping 2.1%
-News Corp shares fell 3.1 percent after the FBI said it would probe allegations that the company hacked into the phone records of victims of the September 11 attacks on the United States.
-Gold settling again at a new record of 1,589/ounce.
