Today, 232-HELP/Louisiana 211, is celebrating National 2-1-1 Day.

It was back in July 2000 that the Federal Communications Commission established 2-1-1 to provide quick and easy access to information about local services.

232-HELP or 211 is available in the Acadiana area 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

A variety of different referral specialists can help callers with:

  • Their needs
  • What options they may have
  • How to refer them to local programs

211 or 232-HELP is a totally free service.

232-HELP was designated as our area's 211 service in 2000, and it was the first in Louisiana and the 4th in the country.

Officials with 232-HELP says since they started their 211 program, they have received twice as many calls for assistance than in the previous three and half decades since its founding in 1965.

The total amount of calls is 6,873,131.  232-HELP serves over 800,000 people in ten parishes.
