The Acadiana Center for the Arts, in conjunction with the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, is launching a new program that will provide stipends for emerging, mid-career, and mature artists in the region.

The program, called Art Spark, will provide anywhere from $1,000 to $5,000 for individual artists, said Paige Krause from AcA.

To help artists qualify for the stipends, ACA is hosting two workshops. One will be held Sept. 8 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and another on Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., both of which will be held at the AcA downtown.

"[Art] is a huge component for the economy here," Krause said. "All of that work that goes into [creating art] is quite consuming, and it's quite hard on artists to find the funding for that, so this problem really supports that."
