Aerial mosquito spraying will happen this Tuesday evening, September 17, weather permitting.

Iberia Parish Government reports that West Nile Virus detections in mosquito pool samples along with an increase in floodwater species mosquitoes is the reason for the aerial spraying in areas south of Highway 90.

Officials say spraying will be near the areas of the Port of Iberia, Rynella and Lydia.

The spraying will begin around sunset and take about 2 and a half hours to complete.

Government officials say most citizens can proceed with normal outdoor activities unless you are hypersensitive to the spray or just wish to avoid it.

Iberia Parish Government reminds citizens that the spraying will be done from a low flying aircraft.  You should not start at or attempt to follow the path of the aircraft.

Tuesday night's spraying will happen in the following areas:

  • Areas West to East from Avery Island Rd.
  • Migues
  • The Port of Iberia to Weeks Island Rd.
  • Pesson
  • Lydia
  • Boudreaux
  • Bayou Jack
  • Weeks Canal --- South of Highway 90 and just North of Avery and Weeks Islands.

If you have any questions or mosquito related problems, please feel free to contact Mosquito Control Office at (337) 365-4933.
