President and CEO of the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce Jason El Koubi said overwhelming approval by voters for a one-cent sales tax to build a new terminal at Lafayette Regional Airport is an example of investment in the future.

El Koubi said airport commissioners made the case for improvements to the airport in light of the potential for economic development and because the building is so old.

"This is something that we needed to do for jobs and economic growth," El Koubi said.

El Koubi said the tax proposal was also responsibly created with a clear start and end dates for collection.

"It was a real sort of team effort" to get the proposal passed, El Koubi said.
