NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans City Council has extended the city's new requirements for cabs to those vehicles that collect passengers at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner.

New regulations for New Orleans taxis now extend to those cabs picking up passengers at the airport.

The Times-Picayune reports the resolution, which passed unanimously on Thursday, requires all airport cabs to be equipped with security cameras, GPS devices, air conditioning and credit card machines. It also requires all cabs to be less than 11 years old.

Council members said the new rules will create an even playing field for New Orleans cabbies and taxi drivers from neighboring parishes that are more loosely regulated.
