Alexandria Area Mother, Grandmother Face Cruelty Charges

ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — A Boyce mother and grandmother were arrested after the mother’s infant was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Town Talk reports Rapides Parish sheriff’s deputies received a complaint from the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services about a possible child abuse case.

Detectives interviewed the mother and grandmother, both of whom cared for the infant. Authorities say the interview uncovered that the child had been injured days before and had not received medical attention.

The mother, 22-year-old Alysha Kay Gaskins Neal and the grandmother, 40-year-old Wanona Faye Gaskins, were booked with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile. Both were released on bond.

It was unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
