ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture Mike Strain is among the featured speakers at the 83rd annual Louisiana FFA Convention which will run through Friday at the Alexandria Riverfront Center.

The FFA is a nationwide group of more than half a million agricultural education high school students, including more than 9,500 from Louisiana. The Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/M1XX4L ) the FFA prepares students for careers in agriculture, the sciences and other related industries and provides opportunities for them to develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Hosted by the Louisiana Association of FFA, the convention will also feature addresses by Dr. Paul Coreil of LSU's AgCtenter, Jason Troendel, national FFA secretary and Mike Roy, state FFA Foundation chairman.
