ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — A 34-year-old man has been booked with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in two attacks that took place in Alexandria.

The Town Talk reports (http://townta.lk/Mc5zle ) Derrick Pickens was arrested in the death of a 33-year-old Erika Davis.

Sgt. Bruce Fairbanks said Pickens turned himself in Tuesday evening.

Fairbanks says police were called to a home around 12:35 p.m. Tuesday in reference to a battery. There they found a 33-year-old woman with a head injury. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released. Upon further investigation, Fairbanks says police then found Davis dead in a nearby home.
