ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — An Alexandria woman faces a charge of child desertion after officers arrived at a home and found two young children alone.

Police detectives had gone to a house Wednesday to find Dvisia Marshall on an unrelated matter. When they arrived, they found a 2- and a 4-year-old alone at the house.

Police say the children had been left in Marshall's care. She returned to the home about 20 minutes later, and was arrested. The children were turned over to the Office of Child Services.

Marshall was booked with one count of child desertion and one count of contempt of court for a warrant through the Alexandria City Court.

It could not be determined whether Marshall had an attorney.
