Lafayette firefighters are still trying to determine what sparked a blaze at a residence on Alfred Street early Saturday morning.

Lafayette Fire Department Spokesman Alton Trahan said at about 1:30 a.m. a neighbor called 911 to report smoke was coming from a single-family home at 108 Alfred Street.

Once firefighters arrived, heavy smoke and flames had engulfed part of the home, but within 15 minutes they were able to extinguish the fire.

The home sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. A vehicle parked under the carport sustained fire damage as well.

No one was injured in the fire as no one was home at the time.
