A number of people have represented the Acadiana area in the National Football League.

All summer long, we’re going to spotlight the fantastic athletes from the area, people that were actually born in one of the Acadiana parishes, that went on to play football at the highest level, the NFL.

Yesterday, we profiled Abbeville native Bobby Duhon.

Today, we spotlight Godfrey Zaunbrecher.

Born on December 17, 1946 in Crowley, Zaunbrecher St. Michael's High School.

Following high school, Zaunbrecher went to college at LSU, where he was a starting center in his final two seasons, earning Second-Team All-SEC honors in 1968 and First-Team All-SEC accolades in 1969

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Zaunbrecher was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 11th round of the 1970 NFL Draft.

Zaunbrecher made his NFL debut with the Vikings in 1971, at the age of 25.

Primarily a back-up offensive lineman for the Vikings, Zaunbrecher was part of the 1973 team that took on the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl VIII.

In three NFL seasons, from 1971-1973, Zaunbrecher appeared in 16 games, all as a reserve.

Today, Zaunbrecher is 70-years old.
