Amelia Man Facing Multiple Charges After Hit And Run Driving

A call came into the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office about someone hitting several mail boxes on Aucoin Street in Amelia, and a deputy responding to the call arrested 47-year-old Jose Ortega.

Ortega was arrested for:

• Hit and run driving
• No drivers license
• Possession of alcoholic beverages in motor vehicles

The deputy says he found damage to Ortego's car that matched the damage done to the mailboxes.

He also says he found an open bottle of beer in the car.

Ortega was later released on a $1,750 bond.
