An Amite man has been convicted on murder charges after killing three in a house fire.

A Tangipahoa Parish jury deliberated about three hours before convicting Michael Varnado of two counts of second-degree murder and one count of manslaughter in the deaths of his estranged girlfriend and her children. The children died when a fire was set at their mobile home in Hammond after their mother was suffocated.
