A three fire alarm call was rang in yesterday just after four in the afternoon for a building on E. Third Street. Near the intersection on Chestnut, a building had caught fire and had spread to the attic and roof of the building.

The fire that started near the back of the building was spreading quickly when firefighters from the Lafayette Fire Department and Scott and Carencro Volunteer departments arrived. The firefighters were especially careful not to get heat exhaustion considering the high temperatures outside of the building that were nearing 100 °F.

The building was vacant, but the Lafayette Fire Department investigation have determined that arson is the likely cause of the fire after learning that it began on the outside of the building and was intentionally set.

Police and the LFD are urging anyone with information on the cause of the blaze to please call Crimestoppers at 337-232-8477.
