Anti-Drone Bill Killed By La. House Committee
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Lawmakers in the House have grounded a Senate-backed bill seeking to restrict the use of drones on private property in Louisiana.
The House criminal justice committee voted 7-6 Tuesday to reject the proposal from Republican Sen. Dan Claitor, of Baton Rouge, after hearing opposition from environmental and media organizations who criticized the proposal as too broad.
Democrat Rep. Helena Moreno, a former news reporter from New Orleans, broke the tie by voting against the measure, killing the bill.
Under the bill, a person couldn't use a drone on private property to capture sounds and images without the owner's consent. The measure had exceptions for law enforcement and the military, among others.
Claitor said the measure would protect the right to privacy.
