Lafayette Police are looking for a suspicious male in Downtown Lafayette, according to Cpl Bridgette Dugas. No other information has been given, but a witness on the scene says an armed individual was seen on the 2nd floor of the parking garage. Another witness says a restaurant worker saw the armed male going to the garage. This is an ever-changing situation and these accounts have not been confirmed with law enforcement.

UPDATE: According to multiple businesses and eye-witnesses downtown the scene has been cleared and we will be receiving more information shortly from Lafayette Police.

Many businesses and schools are on lockdown at this hour. Police have been going to businesses and instructing employees to lock doors and stay away from windows. Ascension Episcopal School sent an email to parents that its campus was on soft lockdown:

Due to the current suspicious person situation in Downtown Lafayette, we are going into a soft lockdown on our Downtown Campus. Please be assured that our teachers are trained for these types of situations and all students are safe and will remain in their classrooms as we monitor the situation. We will be in contact with you as we know more.

This comes after reports into the KPEL newsroom say police have shut down part of Downtown Lafayette. It's happening now near the intersection of Vermilion and Jefferson Streets. If you can avoid that area at this time, please do so.
