The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $54.2 million contract to a New Orleans company.

The contract is  for drainage and canal improvements designed to reduce the impact of rainfall-induced flooding.

Boh Brothers Construction Co. will do the work in the city's Uptown area.

The contract calls for constructing 4,200 feet of covered canal and moving sewer and water lines to accommodate the project. Construction is expected to be completed early in 2014.
