An Opelousas man was arrested for stealing at least two LSU Football Championship rings.

Sheriff's spokesperson Maj. Eddie Thiobodeaux reported 32-year-old Shane Marcus Eaglin was arrested on two counts of felony theft.

Thibodeaux said the victim noticed two rings--one being a 2003 LSU BCS Championship ring, the other being a 2005 Peach Bowl championship ring--missing and began to search local pawn shops. He contacted authorities after recovering one of the NCAA rings at a pawn shop.

Authorities learned the rings were stolen by Eaglin--the victim's brother-in-law.  Eaglin sold the two rings that were pawned for $25 and $35 respectively. The suspect confessed he sold the rings to purchase crack cocaine.

Detectives are still looking for 5 more championship rings including a Port Barre High School State Championship ring and 4 LSU collegiate rings for track and field and football.  All the rings should have Francis on the side of the rings.

“The victim and the detectives put a lot of leg work in this case tracking down the suspects and the rings," said Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. "Pawn shops are urged to use the national program “Leads on Line” to better aid law enforcement.”
