A stabbing near Duson claims the life of one man and lands another in the hospital.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff's spokesman John Mowell tells our news partners at KATC it happened shortly after midnight Thursday morning when they responded to 52-year-old Troy Adams' call that he was stabbed. Deputies say Adams died before they could get there.

36-year-old Derrick Vallien was arrested a few hours later at a truck stop casino in Duson. He's now in the Lafayette Parish jail on a second-degree murder charge.

While authorities are still investigating the motive, they do believe the men knew each other.
