Detectives with the St. Mary Parish's Narcotics Division were patrolling in the Patterson area when they saw a car cross over the center line of Highway 90.  The car almost hit another vehicle.

Detectives tried to stop the car, but the driver took off speeding.  Police say Derrick Kelly was running other cars of the road, and he came very close to hitting some pedestrians walking along the side of the road.

When the car did finally stop, police say the passenger, Jarmacus Gunner was seen throwing several small bags into the back seat, and the man tried to flee by running away.

After getting permission to search the car, police says they found several bags of synthetic marijuana with an estimated street value of about $2,000.  They also found a small bag of marijuana, a digital scale and small plastic bags.
