Sunday around 5:15 p.m. Iberia Parish Sheriff's deputies were called out to the 300 block of Parkview Drive at New Iberia City Park about a disturbance.

Deputies say a victim was assaulted by three men who tried to rob the man.  The victim says one suspect came up to him to ask him to use his cell phone, but when he refused the three assaulted him.  One man even showed the victim a gun.

The man says after being hurt, the men fled on foot.

The man gave the deputies a descriptions of the suspect, and police set up a perimeter of that area nabbing one of the suspects in the process.

The other suspect was then identified, and police arrested him at his home without incident.  A third suspect is still being sought.

The two men arrested were:

  • 17-year-old Jakil Sophus of 714 Ann St. who was charged with attempted armed robbery and simple battery.
  • 17-year-old Bryson Davis of 601 Cherokee St. who was charged with attempted armed robbery, simple battery and resisting an officer by flight.

Anyone knowing the information about the third suspect is asked to the call the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office.
