LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL) -- An inmate at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center already being held on arson charges from a Thanksgiving eve fire in Broussard is now accused of setting fire to his cell.

According to Capt. Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, 28-year-old Sidney Syon used a lighter to set his sheets and blanket on fire.

Judice says Syon was being treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation and minor burns.

Syon will face an additional charge of aggravated arson once he is released from the hospital, Judice says.

No other injuries or damage were reported. It's still not clear how Syon managed to sneak the lighter into the jail.
