PRAIRIEVILLE, LA. (AP) — Ascension Parish sheriff's deputies have arrested a Prairieville mother on child desertion charges tied to the drowning of her 2-year-old daughter.

Deputies tell The Advocate juvenile and family services investigators found that 22-year-old Fallon Gautreau left the 2-year-old unsupervised with neighborhood children playing in her yard near a swimming pool on May 9

They say Gautreau and her mother went to a store while the child's grandfather was in the home but unaware the child was left in the yard.

The girl was found in the pool when Gautreau and her mother returned from the store.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said the child remained on life-support until May 11, dying of complications from the drowning incident.

Gautreau was arrested Monday and released after posting $2,500 bail.
