Seems the galaxy likes to send us massive space rocks for presents on holidays. We had an asteroid fly near us last Halloween and now we're getting another asteroid for Christmas Eve.

Asteroid 2003 SD220 is on an orbit that brings it closer to the Sun than Venus and just outside Earth’s orbit. According to Slate.com, it reached its perigee (closest approach to Earth) at 7 AM CST at a distance of 11 million kilometers.

Thankfully, the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions some thought the asteroid's passing would cause have been debunked by scientists. It's bad enough it's hot and humid for Christmas this year, who needs anything else?
