Major Johnny Blanchard with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office says Johnny Maze of Erwinville drowned in the Basin about one mile north of I-10 yesterday around 2:00.

Maze fell off his boat for unknown reasons without having a life vest on. Blanchard says that Maze was fishing with some friends and they were separated during the time of the accident.

Blanchard also said that his deputies found the body near his boat about five minutes into the search.

Officials would like to remind everyone who plans on fishing on a boat to make sure to wear a life vest for safety.
