(AP) — Rex Ryan has been fired as coach of the New York Jets. The team has announced that general manager John Idzik has been dismissed as well. New York just finished the season with a record of 4-12. In six seasons on the job Ryan had a record of 50-52 with the Jets. And the Atlanta Falcons have announced that Mike Smith has been dumped as head coach.

In addition, NFL.com reports that Chicago head coach Marc Trestman has been fired, and Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers have mutually decided to part ways.

Still on the bubble are the Tony Sparano for Oakland and the Tom Coughlin for the Giants, although Coughlin is expected to retain his position.
